How to Add Days to a Date Manually
Adding days to a date is tricky because months have different lengths — 30, 31, or 28 days (29 in a leap year). To do it by hand, count forward through each month: adding 45 days to March 1 lands on April 15 because March has 31 days (March 1 + 31 = April 1, then 14 more days = April 15). A date calculator does this automatically, which is why it is the fastest and most accurate way to get results like "what is 90 days from today".
Days in Each Month
| Month | Days |
|---|---|
| January | 31 |
| February | 28 (29 in a leap year) |
| March | 31 |
| April | 30 |
| May | 31 |
| June | 30 |
| July | 31 |
| August | 31 |
| September | 30 |
| October | 31 |
| November | 30 |
| December | 31 |
Leap Years Explained
A leap year has 366 days instead of 365, adding February 29. Leap years happen every 4 years, except centuries that are not divisible by 400 — so 2000 was a leap year but 2100 will not be. The most recent leap year was 2024; the next is 2028. This calculator handles leap years automatically when you add or subtract large numbers of days.
