How Much Does Amazon FBA Really Cost?
Estimate your Amazon FBA fees, referral charges, and net profit per unit.
What Are Amazon FBA Fees in 2026?
Amazon FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) fees are the costs sellers pay to have Amazon store, pack, ship, and handle customer service for their products. In 2026, there are four main fee components that every FBA seller needs to understand to price their products profitably.
On average, Amazon FBA fees consume 25%–35% of your gross sale price. Electronics categories tend to be lower (22%–28%) while clothing and accessories can reach 35%–40% due to higher referral fees and return rates.
Amazon FBA Referral Fees by Category (2026)
The referral fee is Amazon's commission on every sale. It ranges from 6% to 45% depending on your product category. The rate has been unchanged since 2025.
| Category | Referral Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Electronics & Computers | 8% | Lowest standard tier |
| Personal Care (under $10) | 8% | Price-dependent tier |
| Books, Music, Video Games | 15% | + $1.80 closing fee on media |
| Home & Kitchen | 15% | Most common rate |
| Sports & Outdoors | 15% | Most common rate |
| Toys & Games | 15% | Most common rate |
| Automotive & Powersports | 12% | Mid-tier rate |
| Clothing (under $15) | 5% | Tiered by price |
| Clothing ($15–$20) | 10% | Tiered by price |
| Clothing (over $20) | 17% | Tiered by price |
| Jewelry (up to $250) | 20% | Drops to 5% above $250 |
| Amazon Device Accessories | 45% | Highest referral rate |
A $0.30 minimum referral fee applies when the percentage-based calculation falls below that floor. This mainly impacts very low-priced items.

The 2026 Fuel and Logistics Surcharge
Effective April 17, 2026, Amazon applies a 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge on all FBA fulfillment fees in the US and Canada. This surcharge is calculated on the fulfillment fee only, not on your selling price, referral fee, or storage.
On a typical standard-size product, this adds approximately $0.17 per unit. While that sounds small, across 5,000 units it equals $850 in additional annual costs. Our calculator includes this surcharge by default.
Monthly Storage Fees (2026)
Amazon charges monthly storage fees based on the volume your inventory occupies. The rate roughly triples during Q4 (October–December) due to peak holiday demand.
| Period | Standard Size | Oversize |
|---|---|---|
| January – September | $0.87/cu ft | $0.56/cu ft |
| October – December (Peak) | $2.40/cu ft | $1.40/cu ft |
Aged inventory surcharges begin after 181 days at $0.50/cu ft, increasing steeply after 271 days. Inventory stored 366+ days may be charged $7.90/cu ft or $0.35/unit, whichever is greater.
How to Reduce Your Amazon FBA Fees
- Optimize packaging dimensions — even 0.5 inches can drop your product into a cheaper size tier. Packaging is your single biggest lever.
- Ship to 5+ fulfillment centers — this avoids inbound placement fees of $0.21–$1.58 per unit.
- Maintain 28+ days of inventory supply — avoids the low-inventory-level fee entirely.
- Liquidate slow-moving inventory before 181 days — avoids aged inventory surcharges that scale aggressively.
- Enroll in SIPP (Sustainability in Packaging Program) — qualifies for discounted fulfillment rates.
- Use professional prep services — avoids $0.32–$5.72 per-unit defect fees.
